Live Impulse

6PM-8PM

Tickets at the door (more below)

Join us for an intimate and transformative evening of Improvisational music and dance performance with David Ruffin, Liana Nuse, Pat Lambdin and Liesje Smith all dedicated artists to the language of expression.

Using the evening’s theme, ‘Live Impulse’, watch what occurs when sensing for the impulse to create. Where does it come from? How do we prepare for it? What rumbles to arise from the dark and what wants to be put to rest, making way for the coming of what’s not yet here?

Performers:

Liana Nuse is an improviser (in sound and movement), songwriter, classically trained cellist, and self-taught guitarist. Her passion for free improvisation and interest in musical communication has led her to train as a music therapist, and she currently works with young children to older adults within a variety of clinical and educational settings.

Liana regularly collaborates with choreographers, experimental musicians, visual and sound artists and currently leads the Liana Nuse Trio - an experimental arthouse band of eclectic influences including funk, 'world', classical, and pop, for cello, voice, keys, and percussion.

David Ruffin is a singer, dancer, actor and voice teacher, based in Montpelier, VT. David studied Voice and Drama at Northwestern University and then had a career in Broadway musical theater (w/ highlights like the Bdwy Nat. Tour of Grease as Kenickie, Bdwy European Tour of West Side Story as Tony, and the original play West Moon Street, Off Broadway). After several years in show business, David became a Unitarian Universalist minister taking him from New York to Cambridge/Boston, MA, and then to the prairie wilds of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2017, stepping back from full-time ministry, David moved to Vermont where he dove into nature-based education, personal growth work and creative arts programming. Finally, during the Covid crisis, he rediscovered his voice as homebase not only for his joy but also vocation. Emerging from the pandemic, David has returned to performance in various ways from musical theater to classical recital to jazz. He is particularly enamored by all that's possible in improvisational music making with amazing collaborators like Liana Nuse, among others. He loves leading community singing and shares his renewed passion for voice in a somatic and holistic approach to vocal instruction in Montpelier. www.davidruffinvoice.com

Pat Lambdin is a guitarist , improviser, song writer and music therapist. He works with both children and adults in a variety of settings and focuses primarily on improvisation. He also performs North Indian classical music on the sarod, a 25 stringed North Indian lute.

Liesje Smith is an improviser, performance maker and event producer who is awakening to the power of collective healing through togetherness and expression. As the initiator of Being/Body Somatic Arts, Liesje aims to draw people together to find commonality and regulations as humans that are intuitive and instinctive and can guide us toward better regulation and care. All projects at Being/Body are dedicated to that endeavor. Liesje is a somatic healer, using dance, touch and movement to help people find their authentic and brave selves. These events are meant to happen monthly to awaken a collection of people’s diverse intelligence and generate collaborative and artistic expressions that help projects like this  move toward stability and vitality.
