From Thwart to Thrive

Working with Rolf Movement® explorations

Happy April Everyone!

Spring and its seasonal tender shackiness is upon us. I am feeling it in the glittering light! Are you too?

Do you find yourself having a multiple array of feelings that rumble through you at any given moment, leaving you feeling a little numb, unsettled or confused? Feelings originate from your body as it’s processing what it senses of the movements of life.

When there is trauma, there can be patterns of dissociation. It’s confusing because we are dis-embodied. It may be familiar, but it’s numb.

Trauma sounds like this: “Why can’t I get out of this lonely, tharted survival strategy that shuts me out from the rest of the world?”

To get out of it, we need to find our bodies and tap into our natural ability to be present with ourselves and discover movement that aligns, balances and heals us.

Confusion turns to clarity when a sense of being met happens; a relationship builds safety with rapport; new ways that, over time, meet all circumstances.

It’s finally springtime.

There’s an opening, a sense of delight, a surprise, a sense of irritability, an unease and even resistance for the expansion and emerging full heat of summer.

What makes you ambivalent about stepping into your next moment?  Do you want to learn to roll with it all and be fully balanced and in harmony with a better, more able bodied and aware you?

Kathleen Rea demonstrating with a participant

Meshworkshop happened this weekend!

I am feeling well nourished by the warm images of moving bodies on the seasoned floor of the Being/Body Studio from this past weekend's workshop on fascia and Axis Syllabus. Kathleen’s led us through the deep embodiment of articulate movement. Walking us through various boney and muscular relationships, Kathleen’s crisp, clear and energized guidance offered us much room to focus and commit.

It was a three day workshop. We were altogether 12 people, 5 of whom came for more than one day.

We created and fortified new movement patterns by articulating joint mobility using our sensory awareness through whichever area of our bodies Kathleen coached us to awaken.

We offered one another hands-on feedback along axial lines along our bodies. Through my partner’s touch and encouraging words, I was able to make connections that pass through the bony landmarks in my own structure. I enjoyed moving through space and I welcomed the common delight and fascination of functional movement in a dissociated world.

I turn to the spirals that pass through natural movement and re-discover again, my delight in knowing that sensation is coupled, hand-in-hand, with motion. I am feeling.

When I consciously allow sensation to come alive in an area of my body, it empowers my whole structure to be more articulate and fully available to me in the world because it’s intelligent as a whole and that feels awakening and accurate.

Can you get it through the words? A coherency? A tangible, earthy and simple observation that is obvious and everyday ordinary?

To acknowledge it brings monumental results.

It was such a pleasure to make this happen with Kathleen!

As a studio, Being/Body proved to be intimate, restful, inspiring, and offered a beautiful environment for deep learning. We were able to create a space that was friendly and warm with an atmosphere for pleasure, motion and the awakening of a collective healing journey.

What Next?

I am feeling more deeply prepared to follow the calling for a somatic movement material like this with real life questions that are shared and explored in a laboratory way.

I’m brewing up the growing desire to hold a somatic/contactimprov laboratory facilitated with lab material like Kathleen’s notes as well as other things that can be explored together in the space, including Contact Improv everyother Sunday morning, for starters.
